The Soap Co
A new ethical brand that employs people who are blind or otherwise disabled or disadvantaged to make luxury soap
160 years of good
The Soap Co. is part of CLARITY, the oldest surviving social enterprise in the UK. Founded in 1854, it has been supported by Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens and Winston Churchill. It was set up to employ, train and support people with disabilities and to prove that businesses can do good, and that people and planet are as important as profit.
The Soap Co. and CLARITY now support over 100 people through employment and training at their two sites, in London and in Keswick in the Lake District. Historically working behind the scenes creating products for hotels, local government and even cruise ships, The Soap Co. is their first consumer brand.
A just challenger
The Soap Co. make luxury handmade soaps, hand wash and hand lotions. Although they are only at the beginning of their journey, they are confident and ready to take on the most established luxury brands in the sector.
Their products are made with vitamins and natural extracts – like cocoa butter and aloe vera – to hydrate and soothe the skin. All their products are paraben free, not tested on animals, and come in three delicious fragrances: Black Poppy & Wild Fig, Citrus and White Tea.
The hand wash and hand lotion are made and packaged in London. The bar soaps are handmade and hand wrapped in Keswick in the Lake District. Both factories house large kennels for guide dogs.
A stepping stone to employment
The Soap Co. and CLARITY’s mission is to give everyone the opportunity of sustained employment, no matter the complexity of their barriers.
Working with each employee for six months to build skills and experience, the company has helped 15 people move on to mainstream jobs in the last six months, and has brought 25 people into employment, some for the first time.
Beautifully designed, environmentally sound
When you’re a business built with purpose it transcends every area; from your employees to your ingredients to your packaging.
The Soap Co.’s bottles are made from 25% recycled milk bottles, creating packaging with almost 50% less impact on the environment than regular PET bottles. The packaging for their bar soaps is plastic-free, using instead recycled paper and biofilms that are fully compostable.
