44% of bread baked in the UK is wasted. Toast Ale take surplus artisan bread from bakeries at the end of the day and crusts discarded by sandwich manufacturers and give it a new life by turning it into beer. The rescued bread is toasted and broken up into large ‘croutons’ ready for the brewing process. Their special recipe combines the toast with malted barley, hops, yeast and water, giving a taste similar to amber ales and wheat beers. Profits from the sale of Toast Ale go to Feedback, an environmental organisation campaigning to end food waste.
